Solutions to Login Expired

Print | Close

There are several possible causes for the "Login Expired" message:

You have been inactive for approximately 15 minutes

PAWS will time-out after 15 minutes. If this happens you will need to log back into PAWS.

You have double clicked on a button or link within PAWS

You can only use single clicks in PAWS. You will need to log back into PAWS.

You don't have cookies enabled

On your browser this setting may be under "options" or "preferences".

Your internet provider uses a proxy server

Some internet providers use proxy servers to speed web access. If you are coming through a proxy server, it is possible that the proxy server will use multiple IP addresses. If the proxy attempts to get pages using different IP addresses, PAWS will see this as a security violation and expire your session.

    Try this:

Login to to the internet as usual.
      Minimize the window.
Click on Internet Explorer or Netscape from your desk top.
      Enter the address: http://www.citadel.edu
      Click on PAWS as usual.

If you still receive the message try changing IE or Netscape settings. Proxies is generally found under tools/internet options/advanced/settings OR edit/preferences/advanced/proxies (you may need to enter www.citadel.edu as an exception).

You are using WebTV

WebTV uses proxies with their set top boxes.
Because the problem lies in the configuration of the set top box, the problem cannot be resolved at The Citadel.

You are behind a firewall

If you are coming through a firewall, it is possible that your internal address will be translated to a different external address each time you leave your site. PAWS sees this as a security violation and expires your session.

See your network administrator to get a static IP address or a map to a static translation.
